About us

Clifton Hill Primary School is located in the inner-city suburb of Clifton Hill, four kilometres north-east of Melbourne, Victoria. The school is over 130 years old and has 486 students in straight grades from prep to grade 6.

The school offers a seven-year curriculum program encompassing all areas of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. We aim to develop students’ abilities in the key domains of English, Mathematics, Science, The Arts, Humanities (History, Geography, Economics), Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Health and Physical Education and Languages Other Than English (LOTE).

The areas of Interdisciplinary Learning and Physical, Personal and Social Learning are integrated throughout the curriculum in order to prepare students for life beyond school. Student’s social competencies are also developed through the You Can Do It program.

Our students have access to a broad range of specialist programs including Performing Arts, Music, Dance, Drama, Physical Education and Sport. Our musical and drama productions are renowned for their quality.

The school is committed to the achievement of excellence in all endeavours and the maintenance of an environment where learning is highly valued. Students are recognised as individuals, treated equally and expected to achieve to their maximum potential.

Equal opportunity principles underpin all policies, programs and school operations. Students are encouraged to become active, independent learners who are able to participate in a cooperative classroom environment and able to accept increasing responsibility for their own learning. Students are motivated to develop skills in problem-solving, decision-making and critical thinking. An extensive and highly successful integration program caters for students with a range of disabilities.

Our behaviour code is based on rights, responsibilities and logical consequences. It leads students to self-discipline, respect and concern for the school and other people. Staff set high standards, develop a sound, purposeful classroom climate and demonstrate a high degree of professionalism. Our conscientious and talented teachers regularly update their skills and expertise through a wide variety of professional development activities to ensure that curriculum programs reflect current best practices in teaching and learning

Camps, excursions, swimming, Perceptual Motor Program, inter-school sport and Junior School Council enhance the curriculum. Quality computers are provided in all classrooms with CD‑ROM facilities and networking throughout the school. In addition to the standard curriculum the school offers optional out of school hours classes in dance, piano, keyboard, guitar and a variety of sporting activities.

Many parents are committed to classroom programs, canteen support and fundraising. The school liaises closely with local pre-schools and post-primary schools. Comprehensive orientation programs ensure effective transition arrangements for children. The school benefits from close cooperation between parents, teachers and children.

Clifton Hill Primary School sets future goals by continually reviewing and evaluating curriculum programs, setting targets and allocating resources according to the fluctuating needs of the school which is reflected in the Strategic Plan.
