Enrolments

Clifton Hill Primary School accepts enrolments from all families for whom we are the closest state school. Proximity is determined by referral to www.street-directory.com.au

At preparatory level

As the school has an approved enrolment ceiling of 475 we are not required to take students for whom we are not the closest school. However, it is school policy to always accept siblings of children who are currently attending, provided they are enrolled by August 1 in the preceding year and the older sibling will remain in the school in the year of Prep sibling entry.
Where vacancies exist after satisfying closest school and sibling demand, consideration is given to any special needs children. The Principal exercises discretion over such enrolments and applications are totally confidential. There are stringent guidelines adhered to in the consideration of what constitutes a special need. There are currently no vacancies for external students for 2010.

Enrolments for Prep 2011

Enrolment applications are currently available for 2011 for all closest school and sibling applicants. Application forms for out-of-area students seeking Prep entry in 2011 will be available on Monday May 10th  2010 from which date parents seeking an out-of-zone enrolment may make an appointment to meet with the Principal in June.

Applicants will be notified on Friday August 20th 2010 of the availability of a place.

At all other grade levels

The school often has vacancies arise where natural attrition occurs. Such vacancies are filled on a first-come first-served basis. Commencement is normally in January-February of each school year although each application is considered on its merit. The school strongly believes in the benefit of lower class sizes. As a guide we aim to have class sizes of 24 in year levels 3, 4, 5 & 6. Our teacher-pupil ratio never exceeds 1:21 across the Prep - 2 cohort although this may mean additional direct teaching support for the main grade teacher who, for example, has a class of 22 or more. Ideally Prep classes are in the range of 21-23 with one grade teacher and additional support across the cohort.
